Obedience brings blessings.
WEEK THREE
Remember my friends.
Obedience brings blessings.
Exact obedience brings miracles.
Don't wish away the time you have now for the blessings you'll receive later.
Just to give you fair warning……. this email includes how we broke our microwave, created a bomb, got bit by a Rancid dog, and some lady thought the premortal existence was like boss baby…. GOD BLESS SACRAMENTO!
I will detail my stories this week in paragraphs with the First names leading out.
Shon- We went over to her house on Monday to have a lesson. We believed we might have to stop teaching her, because she hasn't kept any of her commitments. When we showed up, she wouldn't answer the door, a bad sign. It was so strange her son came up and looked through the peep hole but didn't answer. We had even called her and confirmed that morning. She told us to come over but never answered the door. I am sure this is familiar to many people that have served missions.
GREEN HAIR LADY: We were walking to a member's house when this lady came out to her mailbox. We stopped her and started talking. We asked her if she believed in God. She told us she was agnostic. Then she told us about how she doesn't believe in Jesus. She only believes that there was a historic Jesus, I thought this was quite sad. We tried to share with her some knowledge, but it wasn't very effective. We went on our merry way. After the member lesson we thought we would stop by one of their neighbors who we have taught before. His name was Ray. We knocked on Ray's door. And guess who opened it……. the green haired lady. We were so shocked she's then said, “are you two following me?” and we were speechless. We had no idea that the green haired lady was married to Ray. He had told us earlier that his children wanted to learn about God and was hoping we could come by and give our lessons. However, his wife did not want anything to do with us, so we were kind of in a predicament and decided that it was best if we left without seeing Ray.
TIFFANY: We had dinner plans for Tuesday. Before this we went to have a lesson and were hoping to commit Sophie to baptism. However, her father won't let her get baptized. She is only 11 so parents’ permission is important and necessary. So please pray for her. But our dinner appointment cancelled on us. I was starving and it was cold and rainy. So, we went to knock on some doors. When we were done for the night, it was late, around 8:30 or 8:45. We walked past a home, and I had the strongest impression to go knock it. So, we went back knocked on the door. A big boisterous voice came from the other side. “Who is it” the person asked. We replied that we were the sister missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ. The door started to unlock; a mother came out. We could see her four children running around inside and her husband looking over her shoulder a little bit too. We asked if we could share a message. She came outside and she opened to us that she had been praying, just barely asking what church to join and then we came to the door. Her husband opened the door slightly and asked, “who is it out there”? She then replied to him, and I quote “God.... it's God!"
It felt like one of those miraculous missionary stories. Her son wants to read the book of Mormon and she asked for a book of Mormon too. There's a lot more I would love to tell you, but time is running short. I will just say that Tiffany is prepared and has been looking for a message of peace and hope for quite some time.
MARK: Remember how last night there was an appointment that cancelled on us for dinner. Well, she called us the next night and told us she wanted to make it up to us. However, we had already eaten dinner. But we said yes because we thought she was going to bring her daughter with her who was a new convert, and we were planning on going to dinner and then going by the temple to talk about the temple and the importance of covenants. Lo and behold she showed up to the church without daughter, who did not want to come. So, now we were set up for a second dinner appointment not getting the new convert daughter to the temple and kind of feeling bad about the whole thing. But God uses us as instruments in his hand if we will just trust him. So, we went to dinner we met so many cool people in the restaurant one guy said he had left the church and joined born again Christian church. I think sometimes people want an easy religion but then they realize they get an easy God a God that also takes the easy way out on them. And that's not God's nature so really all they're getting is an easy religion with no God. Then when we were walking out from dinner we went to our car and Sister Bailey got in the car to back it out. The mission rules say that one of us must be outside of the car every time the other missionary is backing out and watch to make sure the other missionary does not back into something or someone. That person was me. As she was backing up a gentle man asked me what I was doing, and I explained that we were missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ and that this is a mission rule. He thought was interesting and we made some small talk. Then I went to get into the car when Sister Bailey was all backed out. She said to me “we need to get that man a social media card."
So, I jumped out of the car, ran over to him and started talking. She just literally gets out of the car in the middle of the parking lot turns on her hazards and we go and talk to this guy. We talked to him for a good 10 or 15 minutes. He’s had a rough life lately. He’s been deployed about nine times and has gone through all the ups and downs. We were able to testify of the power that comes through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The atonement that Jesus Christ instituted as well as the truthfulness and Clarity that the Book of Mormon provides. He was in tears and so were we God works in Mysterious ways…. Thanks for canceling dinner Julie, you have no idea how many miracles happened because of it. The Lord really will consecrate our afflictions for our gain. Jacob 5
KAT: KAT! Okay this was a straight fire miracle. She called us and told us that she loves us and that she feels the spirit every time we are over at her house. She said that she loves the Book of Mormon. She got a medical scare and had to go to the hospital. The paramedics came and when she was leaving, she didn't grab her keys, her wallet, anything like that. She grabbed her Book of Mormon because she said, “I had the inspiration to grab my Book of Mormon before I called 911.” She told us she clutched My Book of Mormon the whole way to the hospital. And people kept asking me what religion I was, and I said “Well I'm leaning towards Mormon.” I thought that was funny. We talked to her about baptism and told her that this is how she could have the gift of the Holy Ghost and that it would be with her and help her with the feeling that she had of the time. She mentioned she was already baptized in the catholic church when she was a baby. We were able to teach her about the idea of original sin being voided by Christ's atonement. Also, that we follow Christs example of full immersion and being baptized at the age of accountability. She wants us to meet her Jehovah Witness friend though so that's kind of scary.
This week was full of Miracles I can't even begin to write them all down.
We were in the Super sketchy area last week. We were minding our own business walking up to the door. I had a prompting to watch out for the little Chihuahua, but I just chalked it up to my own anxiety talking. So, we kept on walking down the street to knock on the next door, lo and behold the stinking Chihuahua runs out of nowhere and before I knew it, he is chasing after me and Sister Bailey. We both are running down the street. I look back at my companion and the fat chihuahua has his teeth into her ankle and will not let go. She's screaming "dog" and I'm screaming "dog". I know I am not supposed to run from a dog, but I'm already running. As usual it is always the yard with the cute lawn decorations and the fat Chihuahuas that come back to bite you in the butt…. Or ankle. 😊 Luckily, Sister Bailey had worn pants that day and thick socks, so it only bruised her skin.
The other cool thing that happened this week was when we were doing our weekly planning. We realized that teaching and setting goals doesn't necessarily mean getting numbers but rather helps us be intentional with what we're planning. We visited a lady named Bonnie who as I mentioned before is Kathy's caretaker. Kathy is an inactive member that we visit. We were deciding whether to mark her as a person we were teaching. However, we realized that if we just keep going about this in a casual way, we will never be consistent or concise with our message. When we specifically tell the Lord that we are willing to teach her and to make plans for her, he can Inspire us with what we need to know.
Love you all please pray that California will warm up! It is freezing. I had to go to Goodwill to pick up some sweaters. 1 Nephi 4:17 you dwindle in unbelief when you don't know what to believe in. If you don't believe in the gospel, then you don't know enough about it yet. People have given their life for this gospel will you give yours will you live yours for it?
Love you all!
Sister Frasier
